A towering guardian in terracotta
Description
A striking, two-metre-tall terracotta figure of an offering priest, modelled with raised arm holding a shallow bowl. The elongated features, high crested headdress and dense beaded pectoral echo Classic Maya and Central Mexican imagery, reinterpreted by a 20th-century Mexican workshop. The surface carries a warm, reddish clay tone with intentionally aged patina, softening the contours and lending the sculpture a timeless, architectural presence. A dramatic piece for a high hallway, gallery or covered patio.

Collectors’ note
While not an excavated antiquity, this sculpture offers the scale and presence of museum displays with the honesty of a documented 20th-century origin – ideal for collectors who appreciate pre-Columbian aesthetics without the ethical and legal complexities of archaeological material.
