Alfons Blomme – Farm by the Water, Flemish Landscape (c. 1940–1965)
Description
A rhythmic landscape by Flemish painter Alfons Blomme, known for his striped, almost musical brushstroke. A low white farmhouse with thatched roof sits by the water, sheltered by a row of trees; in the foreground two dark cattle graze in the wind-swept grass.
The whole surface is alive with short strokes of colour, from the vibrating sky to the textured field, giving the painting a gentle Van Gogh echo but in Blomme’s own language. Nicely presented in a warm gilt frame with a painted slip.
