Alpine painted strongbox / travelling cabinet
Description
Alpine painted strongbox / travelling cabinet, Tyrol or South-German Alps, ca. 1780–1820.
Solid softwood chest richly decorated in original polychrome with stylised flowers, hearts and birds on a dark ground, framed by warm red and ochre borders. The fall-front opens to reveal a charming interior with small drawers and a central door – a miniature cabinet once used to store papers, money or jewellery while travelling. A rare, characterful folk-art object that brings true 18th-century Alpine colour to a modern interior.
