A classic 19th-century sporting painting of a hunting dog striding across open ground under a wide sky. The animal is caught mid-movement, head low, tail level, as if tracking a scent in the field.
The scene is painted on a Paris-stamped canvas and presented in its impressive original gilt frame with rich corner ornaments – exactly the kind of piece that belongs in a library, country house interior or masculine dressing room.

Canvas: approx. 25 × 35 cm
Frame: approx. 45 × 55 cm
Condition report
Oil on canvas, good stable condition with age-consistent craquelure and slightly mellowed colours.
No visible tears or structural repairs; canvas sits well on the original stretcher.
Original 19th-c. gilded frame with wear, rubbing and small losses to the composition decoration, particularly on the corners and lower edge.
Overall patina is attractive and very “country house”; ready to hang, with the option of minor frame touch-ups if desired.
Collectors’ note
Good 19th-century dog paintings are increasingly sought after by both traditional collectors and younger buyers building characterful interiors. The Paris canvas stamp adds a nice documentary touch.
