Description
Northern/Central Italy (prob. Veneto/Lombardy or Tuscany/Emilia), late 18th–early 19th century.
A tall giltwood torchère carved in the Italian late-Baroque tradition, with a confident turned shaft and a sculptural base enriched by shell carving and hand-painted emblem panels. Built to catch candlelight and read as architecture in the room—perfect as a single statement piece in a hallway, library, or beside a console.
Dimensions
H: ~170 cm
Base width: ~63 cm
Condition report
Wear to gilding, small losses and abrasions to edges and corners, wax residue to candle socket; scattered retouching possible. Structurally appears sound in photos—confirm stability and wobble on a flat surface.
Shipping weight
• Packed/crated: ~28–45 kg (estimate)
Collectors’ note
Large-scale giltwood torchères are increasingly hard to find in honest condition—and they photograph extremely well in interiors.
