Romanesque-style stone head
Description
A powerful sandstone head originally carved as an architectural fragment, now mounted on a black marble plinth. The helmeted figure and simple, frontal features echo the spirit of Romanesque sculpture, but the carving is most likely late 19th–early 20th century – part of the historicist revival of medieval forms in Northern France / Belgium.
A strong, graphic presence for a hallway, library or minimal interior – ancient in feeling, but honest about its period.
